The Beautiful Game: Year 4 Football

This half term, year 4 have been dedicated to football, where their passion, skills, and strategy have combined to create unforgettable moments on the school field.   However, they didn’t start off this good; first they had to master the basics.

  1. Dribbling - The ability to keep the ball under control while navigating through defenders is crucial. Great dribblers like Lionel Messi and Neymar are able to glide past opponents with finesse, creating space and opportunities.

  1. Passing - Football is a team game, and passing is at the core of how teams move the ball up the pitch and break down defences. Precision and timing are key when executing short passes, long balls, or through passes.

  1. Shooting - Scoring goals is the ultimate objective in football, and being able to shoot with power, accuracy, and composure can make all the difference.

  1. Defensive Skills - Defenders need to master the art of timing, positioning, and tackling. Great defenders like Virgil van Dijk or Sergio Ramos don’t just rely on strength; they read the game and anticipate attackers’ moves.

They have all worked hard this half term and have all made their own progress.  I’m proud of them.  Oscar is now a great dribbler, Amelia is fantastic at turning and Dylan is a master in defence.

Football is full of remarkable stories of triumph, resilience, and redemption. Here are two that you might like to read about:

Megan Rapinoe: A Champion On and Off the Pitch

Megan Rapinoe’s influence extends beyond her skillful play on the field. As a leader of the U.S. Women’s National Team, Rapinoe has won World Cups, Olympic gold, and been named FIFA’s Best Women’s Player.

Marcus Rashford: More Than a Footballer

Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford has become a symbol of using football’s power for good. Not only is he a top striker, but Rashford has led campaigns to end child food poverty in the UK, making a real impact in the lives of millions. His efforts have been recognized far beyond the pitch, showing that footballers can be role models in every sense.
