Fencing Fun with Class 4

This half term, Class 4 has been trying something new and exciting during their PE sessions – fencing! Known as the "sport of the swords," fencing is an ancient and fast-paced activity that combines agility, focus, and strategy.

Fencing is a sport where two opponents face off, using swords to score points by touching their opponent with the tip of the blade. Class 4 has been learning how to move with precision, react quickly, and even outsmart their opponent with clever footwork and well-timed attacks.

In their first few lessons, the children practiced the basic stance – the ‘en garde’ position – which prepares them to advance or retreat at lightning speed. From this stance, they learned how to make swift attacks, known as lunges, and defensive manoeuvres like the parry, where they block their opponent’s attack. They quickly realised that success in fencing isn’t just about strength; it's about speed, balance, and strategy.

It has been lovely to watch the children develop each week.  They have learned that fencing is not only about competition but also about respect, discipline, and sportsmanship.

Who knows? Perhaps some of them will even become fencing champions in the future!
